“Handausgemalt”: This German term translates directly to “hand-painted,” confirming that the colorful village scene of Berchtesgaden on the front was decorated by hand by a studio artist. The Crown Symbol logo is a trademark used by the Waldershof factory. The factory was established in 1907 by Johann Haviland and later acquired by the prominent Rosenthal porcelain group in 1924, which continued using variations of the crown mark. “BAVARIA Waldershof” specifies the region and town of production. Waldershof is a small town in northeastern Bavaria known historically for its fine porcelain manufacturing. This specific green stamp arrangement was used from the 1940s through the 1960s placing this piece in that smack dab in that mid-century range.
