Occupied Japan – Colonial Couple – Porcelain Figure

$20.00

Description

There is Japan, and then there was occupied Japan. But what exactly was occupied Japan, as stamped on the bottom of this figuring? Well, it is rather historically significant. Briefly, “Occupied Japan” refers to the period from 1945 to 1952 when the Allied forces, primarily the United States, occupied and administered Japan following its surrender in World War II. This period is also marked by significant reforms and rebuilding efforts in Japan under the direction of General Douglas MacArthur. Items marked “Occupied Japan” are often highly sought-after by collectors today. This is one such item.

This figurine depicting an upper crust colonial couple gives the air of regal importance, but does not express the reality of how infrequently these people bathed, and would often stink to high Heaven. So,

If you look at your social position and feel a tinge of jealousy toward the upper class this beautiful detailed and hand-painted couple represents, take comfort in knowing at least you don’t stank like an unemptied bedpan in the middle of summer. High class!
