These lamps pull heavily from Mid-Century Modern design, specifically with textured ceramic or “brutalist”/organic influences from the 1950s–1970s.
It fits perfectly in that style for several reasons: The faceted (hexagonal/octagonal) vase-shaped body with clean, geometric lines and a substantial black base is classic MCM. Many period lamps used angular or sculptural ceramic forms rather than overly ornate traditional ones.
The light beige/cream background with dark incised hourglass/bow-tie (or scale-like) patterns strongly evokes textured “basket weave,” “woven,” or “drip/lava glaze” ceramic lamps popular in mid-century American and European studio pottery. These added tactile interest and organic feel while staying modern. Neutral tones with high contrast, plus the simple hexagonal fabric shade and dark finial, are hallmarks of MCM lighting that pairs well with wood, leather, and bold accents.
It’s sculptural yet functional — not fussy or antique-looking, but designed as a statement piece for contemporary interiors.
It would look right at home in a retro MCM living room, alongside teak furniture, Eames-style pieces, abstract art, or even mixed with modern/minimalist decor.
