Description

Of the finer things-
One of the fascinating aspects of my business is that I get to see items often rarely seen by others. Take for example this hand-cast, hand-painted ceramic vase made and signed by Lee Reynolds. Who is Lee Reynolds? Lee is a very prominent artist who formed Vanguard Studios in 1964 and pioneered a technique where backgrounds of his paintings were done in acrylics then the line work was a silk screen. The technique also became used by Andy Warhol’s The Factory. Lee would then add details to the screened lines to create a raised effect before being sprayed with an oil sealer. His earliest works were signed “Lee Reynolds,” important to note as his signature changed (Lee Burr then even later to Lee Reynolds Burr). He later employed artists to create, at least in part, his works for him and it is these he signed with his later signatures. Lee worked almost exclusively in painting.
This vase is something extra special as it is not a painting, a rare work of Lee’s art of a different medium. Moreover, it was made with, and gifted to his friend, another illustrious and very well decorated artist, Damon Carter. Damon kept this vase in the upstairs studio of his home in Canton, Georgia.

Lee’s paintings sell for thousands, including $10K and up for some. This vase is, quite literally, a one-of-a-kind work of art.

This gorgeous vase is finished in a tan/cream color and the Grecian/Roman style draping of fabric is finished in light pastels; pink, blue, etc. The vase is in very, very good condition with no cracks or repairs.  There is one small chip near the signature at the base.
